Blow It Up & Burn It Down

Image not our actual RV

So we’re back! 5 years has passed since the last entry to this blog site and this time we’re really doing it. We’ve remodeled our house, put it up for sale, and we’ll be closing on it this upcoming Friday (12/10/21). We’ve decided to go with a 5th wheel RV. We purchased 2016 Ram 3500 Laramie Dually with the 6.7 L Cummins diesel engine back at the end of October. We were planning on picking up our 2022 Grand Design Solitude 382WB on Monday (12/13/21). Here’s where our first RVing story begins.

I called our sales rep earlier today (12/6/21) to inquire about pricing and availability of a washer/dryer for our RV along with a generator and a solar panel system. This way we can boondock (camp off grid not plugged into shore power, water, sewer, etc). This will allow us to cut down on camping fees dramatically. As I started to ask about these items, our sales rep stopped me mid-sentence and said, “I’m going to be straight up with you. The RV that was going to be delivered to you burned to the ground. Something happened when it was being prepped for your delivery and the propane tanks went off like a rocket. The fire also took out 5 other units”. I didn’t know what to say. I responded with, “you’re joking with me, right?”. He said he wished from the bottom of his heart that he was joking but he wasn’t. I was in complete shock. Several thoughts ran through my head, “what are we going to do now?”, “I only have a few days off from work to close on the house, get to south Georgia, take delivery of the RV, move in and settle. The sales rep said they have another unit just like the one that was going to be delivered to us and they’ll just transfer the paperwork over to it. They’re currently waiting on some decals they have to put on it so it may be the 14th or 15th before we take delivery and he’ll let me know more tomorrow (Tuesday 12/7/21).

They say the RV lifestyle is an adventurous one. You never know what’s going to happen. Who knew the adventure would start before we even get the RV!!

So if the dealership can make the other RV happen, this will just be a minor setback. We may have dodged a major bullet here. It’s all in God’s hands and he’s in control. We’ll just need to wait and see what happens.
